Session Name: Copyright and the Changing Political Environment in Washington: A View from the Inside
MeetingType: Chapter Meeting
Date: 01/14/14
Description: New York Chapter: For most of our country's history, copyright policy and legislation were largely immune from the partisan rancor that has long characterized other areas such as tax policy, social programs, and privacy protection. The organized revolt against recent efforts to enhance copyright protections, including the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA), underscores that things have changed. Our panelists, who come from both sides of the debate, will explore the competing interests and ideologies that brought us here, and how the heightened role of politics in copyright policy is likely to play out.
