CSUSA Media Library: Session Details

Session Name: End of the Road? Copyright Termination in the Music, Literary, Fine Arts, Motion Picture and Television Industries
MeetingType: Mid-Winter Meeting
Date: 02/03/12
Description: US Copyright law permits authors (or, if the authors are not alive, their surviving spouses, children or grandchildren, or executors, administrators, personal representatives or trustees) to recapture ownership and control of copyrights and grants of copyright assignments and licenses that were made on or after January 1, 1978 under section 203 of the Copyright Act. This is also available under section 304 during the extended renewal term for pre-1978 works. Jurisdictions outside the US have similar termination schemes. This panel will address termination issues under US law, and similar foreign statutes and examine how these termination rights affect each of the respective entertainment and fine arts industries.
